20. Pittsford-Mendon High School, Pittsford, NY

Pittsford-Mendon High School is a public school in Pittsford Town, New York. It has 1,018 students in grades 9-12. In this school students come together to support each other everyday whether its tutoring each other in a class or asking for just simple advice.

The counselors, classmates, the teachers, the principals, the cafeteria staff, the coaches, down to the janitors. They are all there to help students.

The culture at Mendon allows each student to pick their best options and succeed provided they do the work. At times, the workload can seem to be too much when trying to balance it with the extracurricular activities they do, but the teachers are in large part understanding and amicable.

They truly do care about the success and welfare if their students. There are definitely favorites and disliked teachers, but all students know at least one teacher who truly has made a positive impact on their lives. AP classes are offered and about 75% or more of the students have taken at least one. Popular classes include AP Psych, Public Speaking, and AP Biology.

Teachers are all very friendly and considerate. All the teachers just want their students to succeed and are willing to put in the time and effort it order to make it happen. Overall quality of teachers is very good. Some teaching styles are college level which is very beneficial. There is a district wide consistency in grading.

The extracurricular activities at Pittsford Mendon are spread out from a wide variety. Every student is shown that they have a place to “fit in” and express their own personal talent with students and staff members who share the same passion.

School sports teams dominate. People are obsessed with popular sports like football and soccer, but they kind of ignore sports like swimming and cross country, both of which have won states.

Their spirit only comes out during big games. People don’t go to regular season games, but they will attend sectionals or special games with great enthusiasm. Overall Mendon has a great sports program.
